SEOUL, April 20 (Korea Bizwire)The government plans to simplify electric vehicle (EV) charger meter certification standards while streamlining the requirements for the registration of manufacturers to promote the development and installation of EV chargers.

The Korea Agency for Technology and Standards on Tuesday unveiled a revision of its EV charger technology standards.

The revision makes it easier for companies to acquire the certification needed for changing auxiliary electronic devices such as displays, modems and payment devices, whose specs are often altered depending on the type of end users, simply through several tests.

In addition, minor changes such as modifications to the external design and terminal block are now possible without the need to receive any approval.

In particular, when it comes to changes in cable length, an issue that has caused huge inconvenience to manufacturers, the agency plans to allow companies to freely customize the length without the need to get additional approval as long as it is modified within the range between the maximum and minimum length accepted in the first approval procedure.

In addition, the unit of calibration to indicate the charging amount will be changed from 0.1 kilowatt-hour to 0.01 kilowatt-hour, aimed at providing consumers with more accurate information on charging prices.
