Once objects of derision for being an eyesore, the newly designed public service amenity will not only be easier on the eyes, but will also serve a second purpose by literally lighting up residents’ evening walks.

The new-look phone booths have shed the stuffy, box-shaped container with glass walls, increasing accessibility and eliminating potential hazards from broken glass.

The phone booths’ dual role as street lamps has not gone unnoticed by local residents, who approve of the change.

A spokesperson for the city government said, “The city is planning on implementing the new designs in areas where they will blend in with the surrounding environment. It all depends on how positive the reactions from the local residents are towards the phone booths.”
