GOYANG, Sept. 18 (Korea Bizwire)Controversy is stirring after a cat that was injured in a car accident was put down at an animal protection center affiliated with Goyang City. The facility protects abandoned animals such as cats and dogs.

The Korean Animal Welfare Association and the Goyang City Cheerful Cat Cooperative demanded punishment for the animal protection center, claiming that the cat was put down without receiving proper treatment. As well, they requested that measures be taken to ensure that similar incidents be prevented in the future. The city promised to prepare countermeasures.

Ten officials from the two organizations pointed out that the injured cat was found in the mechanical room instead of cages inside the animal protection center. They also claimed that the injured area was neglected until it was decayed and swarming with maggots.

With signs alluding to a catch phrase on the city’s Facebook page, the organizations demanded that the animal protection center come up with ways to improve the management of animals.

Goyang officials talked with the two organizations, and promised to hold a management committee meeting every three months, to come up with a suitable plan to protect neglected animals by September 24, and conduct an audit on the current incident.
