GOYANG, South Korea, April 17, (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s premier floral celebration, the 17th Goyang International Flower Expo, is set to open on April 25 at Ilsan Lake Park in Goyang Special City, featuring more than 100 million blooms over a 17-day span.
The festival, running through May 11, will host over 200 organizations and exhibitors from 25 countries under the theme “Flowers, Imagination, and Fragrance.” The expansive 280,000-square-meter venue will be transformed into a vibrant mix of indoor and outdoor exhibitions.
The outdoor displays are organized into three themed sections: a cultural tribute to flowers, gardens of imaginative interaction, and visions of a sustainable future. Highlights include a 10-meter-tall golden panda sculpture at the “Dreaming Garden” plaza and large character installations from the popular children’s animation Catch! Teenieping.
Other attractions include the “Flower, Water, and Sunset Garden” lined with metasequoia trees, and interactive zones like the “Fantasy Garden” and “Goyang Citizen Garden Show,” where local teams design and build themed gardens. Nine photo zones in the “Everyday Imagination Garden” will depict outdoor wedding parties.
More than 100,000 flowering plants representing 200 species from 300 local farms will grace the outdoor space. Indoors, the exhibition centers around the Floral Industry and Exchange Halls, featuring rare and exotic specimens such as Pachypodium from Madagascar, carnivorous plants from Indonesia, and rainbow roses from Colombia.
A striking 20-meter vertical “Breathing Garden” and themed horizontal gardens recreate a tropical rainforest atmosphere, while an aerial floral display fills the central hall.
The event will also host international floral design showcases, competitions like the Goyang International Flower Award Show, horticultural art contests, and a garden culture forum.
Beyond exhibits, the festival features performances and shopping opportunities. The Goyang Flower Market near the musical fountain will offer locally grown flowers from 33 area farms. Opening performances on April 25 include the Goyang City Choir and singers Na Tae-joo and SG Wannabe’s Kim Yong-jun. On Children’s Day (May 5), a Catch! Teenieping parade will entertain young visitors, while Trot stars Kim Hye-yeon and Kim Na-hee will perform for Parents’ Day (May 8).
Interactive experiences such as pedal-powered flower boats, art workshops, body flower shows, and orchid clinics will run throughout the festival.
Visitors can access the venue via Jeongbalsan Station (Line 3) or KINTEX Station (GTX-A), with complimentary shuttle buses operating from designated points, including temporary parking lots. Further details are available on the official website: www.flower.or.kr.
Since its inception in 1997, the Goyang International Flower Expo has drawn over 8.77 million visitors. Goyang Mayor and Expo Chair Lee Dong-hwan described the event as “a one-of-a-kind convergence of floral celebration and industry expo, where visitors can enjoy spring blooms and create lasting memories.”
