SEOUL, July 29 (Korea Bizwire)GS Retail Co., a major South Korean retailer, said Thursday it had developed a new blockchain-based product information service called B-Link.

B-Link uses blockchain technology to manage information on the production, distribution and consumption of specific products such as foods and manufactured goods.

When it comes to agricultural products, B-link uploads information on the origin of production, storage method, harvest date, distribution channel and process to a blockchain, enabling anybody, including producers, distributors and consumers to check the information.

In February 2021, GS Retail invested in Guhada, a blockchain-based shopping platform for foreign luxury items, and collaborated to develop the B-link service.

The retailer officially launched B-Link as a general-purpose service and applied it first to pork products selling through its supermarket chain GS The Fresh.

Customers can check the country of origin, livestock history number and processor information through QR codes printed on pork product labels.
