SEOUL, Jan. 3 (Korea Bizwire) — GS Retail Co. said Monday it will be installing foreign currency exchange kiosks at stores that are part of its convenience store chain GS25 and supermarket unit GS The Fresh.
The forex kiosks will be operated on a trial basis at about 10 stores run by the company.
The retailer noted that it is introducing the kiosks for the purpose of strengthening its financial services offerings to meet the growing demand from tourists.
The new kiosks were developed by foreign currency management platform operator Ooddy.
Foreign currencies from 15 countries, including dollars, yen and euros, can be exchanged for won, while won can be exchanged for four foreign currencies such as dollars, yen, euros and yuan.
In particular, the kiosks can accept small change in foreign currency, which can be converted into points and used to purchase items in GS25 stores.
