SEOUL, Dec. 1 (Korea Bizwire)A new artificial intelligence (AI)-based delivery robot made an appearance at a local convenience store.

LG Electronics Inc., a major home appliance maker, and GS Retail Co., operator of convenience store chain GS25, introduced the an AI-based delivery robot LG CLOi ServeBot for a test run at a convenience store in LG Science Park in western Seoul on Monday.

The robot has been named ‘Delio,’ a combination of the terms CLOi and delivery.

Users can use a KakaoTalk application to place a delivery order at a GS25 convenience store, where an employee will load the purchases into Delio’s delivery compartment, and type in the customer’s phone number and destination.

Delio uses a pre-learned map of the building to reach the destination by taking the shortest route. If it requires getting on an elevator, the robot automatically hails the elevator via wireless transmission to go from the first basement to the 9th floor.

Once it reaches the destination, Delio calls the customer to inform them that the item has arrived, and sends a text message containing a password that opens the compartment in which the item is stored.

Delio is 50 centimeters in length and width, and 130 centimeters in height, and contains three compartments capable of carrying 15 kilograms and covering three destinations on each dispatch.
