GWANGJU, South Korea, May 30 (Korea Bizwire) – The city of Gwangju and the Asia Culture Center is co-hosting the 2017 ACC Gwangju Fringe International from June 2 to 4, featuring 16 domestic and international troupes, spanning the city’s venues and public spaces including the ACC, May 18 Democracy Square, and Geumnam-ro Street.
The festival, inspired by the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, will serve as a platform for artistic experiments and creativity, and bring fresh momentum to the city, according to officials.
Events will cover various artistic genres – street theatre, circus, dance, installation arts – and explore themes like solitude, instability in human relationships and the mundaneness of daily life.
Among the international performers are Argentinian dance company Voalà, showcasing Voalà Station, highlighted by sui generis music and dance that takes place mid-air; B-floor, from Thailand, performing an anti-government protest-themed theatre, Red Tanks; and French theatre crew Yi Fan, staging its circus act Shouting Without Noise.

Domestic performances include the Lalala Show by Um Dalda, a sit-com theatre featuring a gypsy couple; Woman with Flower by Creative Center Dandi canvasing building walls as its stage; and Interaction by Seed Dance Project Group, portraying the frailties of human relationships through physical movement.
“All performances for the ACC Gwangju Fringe International were selected after careful consideration of their artistic quality, and the ways in which audiences can best enjoy street arts,” said the festival’s chief director, Lim Soo-taek.
