SEOUL, May 15 (Korea Bizwire)The Gyeonggi provincial government said Thursday it has developed a fire helmet mounted with a hands-free wireless transmission device that allows wireless communication directly through a helmet while freely using both hands, and is seeking patents for key technologies.

The devices can be connected to firefighters’ walkie-talkies to allow independent radio communication with speech recognition.

Therefore, firefighters can use both hands to work while communicating wirelessly through their helmets in emergencies.

The provincial government completed the development of the technology in February with the Advanced Institute of Convergence Technology, and is currently supplying it to firefighters at three fire stations as part of a pilot project.

Furthermore, the provincial government has applied for patents on noise canceling technology and voice recognition technology that can maintain communication quality at noisy disaster sites among the information and communication technologies used in the device.

Once the patent registration is completed, the province expects that it will be able to contribute to the distribution of wireless communication equipment using related technologies.

In the future, the provincial government plans to supplement its performance and develop commercial products by reflecting the opinions of firefighters who used the new helmet on a trial basis.
