SUWON, Sept. 22 (Korea Bizwire)The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education said Wednesday it will introduce a cafeteria-type school meal system, deviating from the traditional pattern of providing a uniform menu.

A cafeteria-style school meal system enables students to select the kind and amount of food of their choice by offering a wider variety of dishes and ensuring self-service style food distribution.

The education office plans to form a task force team consisting of school managers, nutrition teachers, nutritionists and experts from the office of education support.

The task force team will start operating for three months starting next month. After collecting opinions from the field, the education office plans to include the project’s cost in next year’s budget.

After selecting the schools that want to introduce a cafeteria-type school meal system in February, the education office will operate the new program on a trial basis, and expand the scope of participating schools by 2026 on a gradual basis.

At present, the province has 26 schools offering self-service style school meals and 11 schools running salad bars.
