Haenam County Pushes Ahead with Afforestation Projects

HAENAM, Feb. 27 (Korea Bizwire)Haenam Country in South Jeolla Province will carry out a project to create new forest and mountain areas to promote the economic and public value of woodlands and build a foundation for sustainable forest management.

The initiative includes eight hectares of bio-circulated afforestation that supplies biomass raw materials such as wood pellets and pulp materials, 23 hectares of wood-producing afforestation, and 12 hectares of special trees, including rapid growth trees such as yellow poplar and fir trees.

With special resources that can generate short-term income, the government will also create 60 hectares of mountain lacquer forest in 13 districts, including Hwasan Village, and other areas.

The government will expand forestation in residential areas by planting 30 hectares of large trees to reduce fine dust.

A 27-hectare forestation project will also be carried out to plant large seedlings that can prevent various disasters including forest fires by protecting areas adjacent to villages and farmland.
