Haeundae Marine City at Night is The New Hot Spot, Big Data Says

SEOUL, Mar. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — The Haeundae District Office conducted a big data analysis of 5,300 domestic and 4,700 foreign Haeundae-related mentions on blogs, internet communities and SNS from June to October 2014.

According to a comparative analysis between the 2014 results and results from a similar study in 2012, Marine City and Moon Tan Road, which are two spots famous for night promenade, were mentioned much more frequently on the web. According the 2014 analysis, the popular beach area was mentioned 391 times on Korean SNS and 258 times on foreign SNS, while the 2012 study revealed a total of only 33 internet mentions.

The office said that Haeundae was for the most part leaving its visitors with good impressions, as 82 percent of personal opinions were positive, with visitors commenting on the district’s great landscapes, night views and the Haeundae Sand Festival. Negative remarks were mostly related to unpleasant weather due to typhoons, and scattered driftwood. Positive remarks about the food in Busan were also notable. Pork and Rice Soup, Swellfish Soup, Milmyeon, Codfish Soup and famous Busan bakeries were all mentioned in good light.

An Jeong-soon, head of big data analysis for the district office, said that the office will develop tour packages focused on night time viewing and promote popular tourist spots as the ‘Seven Night Wonders of Haeundae.’
