SEOUL, July 12 (Korea Bizwire) — With the trend of saving even small amounts of money spreading amid the economic slump, South Korea’s major travel agency has unveiled new apps that pay users for walking.
Hanatour Service Inc. announced on Tuesday that it launched the industry’s first step counter service, designed to provide rewards based on the number of steps taken.
The service is available through the company’s app and offers mileage to individuals who complete walking missions of 1,000, 5,000, and 10,000 steps.
Hanatour already operates a mileage-saving system that allows users to make payments using their accumulated mileage for purchases.
The financial services industry has also integrated step-counting functions into their apps and introduced related products.
For example, the financial app Toss currently offers a step-counting function, and Monimo, a platform launched by Samsung’s financial affiliates, operates a walk challenge program.
Woori Bank and Welcome Savings Bank have also released installment savings products that provide preferential rates based on the number of steps taken.
