SEOUL, Jan. 29 (Korea Bizwire)Hancom Inc., a South Korean software maker, on Monday unveiled a new interpretation service that will be available for the upcoming PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

GenieTalk, co-developed by the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, has been designated as the official translation software for next month’s games, which are set to take place in South Korea’s eastern alpine county of PyeongChang.

The software is capable of translating between Korean, Japanese, Chinese, English, Spanish, French, German, Russian and Arabic, Hancom said.

The company said the software is equipped with voice recognition software, and can translate typed text and text within images, as wells as images.

The company said it will update the software later this week to translate the dialect of Gangwon Province, where the games will be held.

“The service has learned the dialect of the Gangwon region,” CEO Noh Jin-ho told reporters in Seoul. “The app has a 98-percent voice recognition rate of the Korean language, including dialect and proper nouns.”

The homegrown software firm is well-known among South Koreans for its mainstay word processing computer software based on the Korean language.
