SEOUL, June 29 (Korea Bizwire) — Hanjin Transportation Co., a South Korean logistics company, announced on Monday that it will launch a new venture in which delivery vehicles will take street view pictures and collect road information.
Street view refers to mapping services that offer a virtual look at real streets using imagery from high resolution cameras. A road information database (DB) is used to update map information.
By installing exclusive cameras in and outside its delivery vehicles, Hanjin plans to take street view pictures and collect road information related to buildings, streetlamps, facilities and road conditions.
The collected data can be used in various areas, including web portals’ street view services, maps, navigation and autonomous driving.
To launch the new service, Hanjin formed a business partnership with UOK Co., a specialist in VR and AR content solutions. The two companies expect to launch a pilot project to collect sellable image data by mid-July.
