SEOUL, Nov. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — Hanhwa Ocean Co. said Friday it has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Britain’s Babcock International Group for joint global naval export projects.
Under the agreement signed Thursday, Hanwha Ocean and Babcock will cooperate on joint submarine exports to Canada and Poland. They also agreed to provide customized solutions to clients in other global naval vessel export markets.
Babcock International, a global defense company, won Poland’s frigate project in 2022 and is currently building the ships locally while planning to participate in future maintenance operations.
The group has also been conducting maintenance operations for four Victoria-class submarines of the Canadian Navy since 2008.
Babcock CEO David Lockwood visited South Korea this week as part of the partnership and toured Hanwha Ocean’s shipyard on the southeastern island of Geoje, according to the South Korean shipbuilder.
Hanwha Ocean previously signed a technical cooperation agreement with Babcock Canada in June 2023. In February, it signed a teaming agreement with Babcock International in Poland for collaboration on global submarine projects.
