SEOUL, May 17 (Korea Bizwire)Hanwha Q Cells, the solar panel unit of Hanwha Solutions Corp., said Tuesday it will invest 136.5 billion won (US$101 million) to establish a test facility at its Jincheon plant in North Chungcheong Province.

This facility aims to enable mass production of perovskite-silicon tandem cells and modules. The trial operations for the new facility are scheduled to begin in the latter half of next year.

In collaboration with its German R&D center in Talheim, which currently operates a small-scale test production line for R&D purposes, the company plans to launch full-scale mass production of tandem cells in the second half of 2026.

Tandem cells involve stacking perovskite cells, a next-generation photovoltaic material, on top of existing silicon cells.

This configuration allows for the absorption of different bands of light by the top and bottom cells in a mutually complementary manner, thereby maximizing power efficiency.

Hanwha Q Cells aims to produce tandem cell-based modules with over 16 percent higher power efficiency than TOPCon and Heterojunction modules through this investment.
