SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Korea Bizwire)Hanwha Q Cells, a solar solutions unit of chemicals-to-construction conglomerate Hanwha Group, has launched a drive to build and operate a floating solar power plant together with local residents.

The company is now engaged in the construction of a floating solar power plant at Hapcheon Dam, located in Hapcheon County, South Gyeongsang Province.

The new facility will be the world’s largest floating solar power plant to be built at a dam, with a 41 megawatts installation capacity.

The company plans to pursue a resident participation model for the construction and operation of the floating solar power plant.

Under this model, it will give priority to local residents in hiring of construction workers, while inviting the region’s construction and heavy equipment companies to participate in the project.

Hanwha Q Cells also plans to transport equipment and supplies using ships associated with the region’s fishing communities, while hiring some local residents as staff in charge of environmental surveillance and repair and maintenance of the plant over the next 20 years.

Local residents will also be given the opportunity to participate as investors in the floating solar power plant.

Those who invest to acquire a stake in the plant will be able to receive fixed interest returns between 4 percent and 10 percent over the next 20 years.
