SEOUL, Dec. 22 (Korea Bizwire)Hanwha Q CELLS, the solar power business unit of Hanwha Group, said Friday it will build a 1 gigawatt solar power plant in Turkey by 2018 to supply electricity to the country.

In March, Hanwha Q CELLS won a deal from the Ministry of Energy and National Resources in Turkey initially to build a plant to roll out solar power products such as ingots, wafers, cells and modules, the company said in a statement.

Using the solar power products, Hanwha Q CELLS will build a 1 gigawatt solar power plant in Turkey’s capital city of Ankara with the aim to begin the commercial production of electricity in early 2019. The Turkish government has agreed to purchase electricity to be produced at the power plant for 30 years, it said.

All the projects will be carried out in a 50:50 joint venture with local energy company Kalyon, Hanwha Q CELLS said, without giving the value of the contract.
