SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Korea Bizwire) — Hanwha Group said Tuesday its three defense affiliates, including Hanwha Aerospace Co., will participate in an international defense industry exhibition in Poland this week, as the South Korean group spearheads its bid for the Eastern European country’s submarine modernization project.
At MSPO 2025, set to be held Tuesday (local time) through Friday in Kielce, Poland, Hanwha Aerospace, Hanwha Ocean Co. and Hanwha Systems Co. will operate a joint booth showcasing a wide range of advanced defense solutions.
Hanwha Ocean, the group’s shipbuilding arm, will showcase technologies of its 3,000-ton KSS-III submarine, equipped with submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs). Powered by lithium-ion batteries and an air-independent propulsion (AIP) system, the vessel can remain submerged for more than three weeks.
The company will also promote offshore patrol vessels, unmanned surface vehicles and other naval platforms tailored to the needs of Poland and the Baltic states.

In addition, Hanwha Ocean plans to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a local shipbuilder to establish a maritime fund and explore the transfer of technology and fostering of skilled experts.
Hanwha Aerospace will feature the K9A2, an upgraded version of its K9 self-propelled howitzer, fitted with an auto-loading turret. Its new infantry fighting vehicle, the K-NIFV, will also be on display.
Hanwha Systems, a defense solutions provider, will debut its active protection system (APS) for armored vehicles, along with small synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites and the Block-I laser anti-aircraft weapon system.
“Hanwha and Poland have built deep trust through the K9 and Chunmoo projects,” Hanwha Aerospace Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Son Jae-il said. “We will do our best to contribute to Poland’s self-defense capabilities and support the growth of its defense industry ecosystem.”
Hanwha Group has been stepping up efforts in the Polish defense market as it competes for Warsaw’s “Orka” project, which aims to acquire three to four 3,000-ton submarines, estimated to be worth over 3 trillion won (US$2.25 billion).
