SEOUL, Feb. 21 (Korea Bizwire) — HD Hyundai Infracore announced on February 20 that it has successfully completed cold-weather performance testing of its 11-liter hydrogen engine (HX12) in collaboration with Tata Daewoo Mobility. The tests were conducted from February 4 to 14 in Daegwallyeong, Gangwon Province.
The testing program evaluated the hydrogen-powered engine’s performance in temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius. Engineers assessed multiple critical functions, including instant start capability, stable fuel supply from the hydrogen tank, driving and braking performance on inclines while carrying cargo, and charging safety.
Based on these test results, HD Hyundai Infracore plans to work with Tata Daewoo Mobility to improve vehicle performance and conduct road tests to measure emissions and fuel efficiency.
The company will also conduct final pre-production testing, including evaluations in 55-degree Celsius chamber conditions and 100,000-kilometer durability tests.
HD Hyundai Infracore plans to begin mass production of hydrogen engines for trucks in early 2026, supplying them to Tata Daewoo Mobility. Following commercialization, the company aims to launch the world’s first hydrogen-engine truck in the first half of 2027.
“We will accelerate our technological development to ensure our hydrogen engines are globally competitive in the eco-friendly mobility market,” said Jeong Wook, head of engine product development at HD Hyundai Infracore.
