HD Hyundai Vice Chairman Discusses Shipyard AI with Palantir Technologies CEO

SEOUL, March 7 (Korea Bizwire)Chung Ki-sun, senior vice chairman of South Korean shipbuilding conglomerate HD Hyundai Co., recently met with the head of Palantir Technologies Inc. to discuss shipyard projects utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology, according to industry sources Friday.

Chung met with Alex Karp, chief executive officer (CEO) of the American defense AI firm, in Washington on Thursday (U.S. time) and discussed ways to collaborate in shipyard projects involving AI technology, the sources said.

According to an official at HD Hyundai, Chung was visiting the United States to attend CERAWeek, a global energy conference, set to be held in Houston next week.

The two sides reportedly shared the view that AI-driven defense solutions could play a crucial role in the security strategies of both South Korea and the U.S.

HD Hyundai and Palantir Technologies have been jointly developing an AI-driven shipbuilding production system since 2021 to enhance automation in the shipyard industry.
