SEOUL, Jan. 19 (Korea Bizwire)False reports to 119, the fire and ambulance emergency number, will soon be punished by higher fines.

The National Fire Agency announced that new regulations will come into force this Thursday.

The new regulations will penalize false emergency reports with a 2 million won (US$1,810) for an initial violation, 4 million won for a second violation, and 5 million won for three or more violations.

The new fines are between two and three times higher than previous penalties of 1 million won for an initial violation, 1.5 million won for a second, and 2 million won for all subsequent violations.

The new regulations are expected to help prevent the misuse of the fire agency’s workforce and capacity for deployment caused by false reports.
