SEOUL, Feb. 8 (Korea Bizwire) – Home electronics retailer ET Land reported on February 7 that sales of kitchen appliances have been on the rise, attributed to an increase in the number of people cooking at home due to the soaring cost of dining out.
Sales of key kitchen appliances like electric ovens and ranges last month saw significant increases of 26% and 17%, respectively, compared to the same period last year, with dishwasher sales also up by 11%.
This surge in kitchen appliance purchases is seen as a “butterfly effect” resulting from the skyrocketing cost of dining out. According to Statistics Korea, the cost of dining out jumped by 6% last year, the highest increase in 30 years.
The trend towards home-cooked meals has naturally led to more consumers investing in kitchen appliances. ET Land highlighted that electric ovens, in particular, are becoming increasingly popular due to their multifunctionality, including capabilities like microwaving, air frying, and grilling, combined with their cost-effectiveness.
An ET Land representative commented, “The home cooking trend is not only boosting sales of kitchen appliances but also general kitchenware like frying pans and pots. With no sign of the cost of dining out decreasing anytime soon, we expect this trend to continue for the foreseeable future.”
