SEOUL, March 2 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean hypermarket chain operator Homeplus Co. said Monday that it will set up a mobility service platform that will enable customers to buy and sell cars and motorcycles at its outlets.
The company said that based on the fact that most of its customers use their own cars when they visit Homeplus stores, it decided to provide them with another reason to visit by establishing car-related services in the idle space at its large store sites.
In collaboration with local motorcycle manufacturer DNA Motors Co., Homeplus expects to launch sales of two types of electric motorcycles, as well as an electric motorcycle rental service.
It is also planning to launch sales of new cars for a variety of brands, including Renault Samsung Motors Corp.’s Renault ZOE all-electric car.
The company is on track to launch a ‘certified used car sales service’ that enables customers to buy off-lease cars after a test drive, as well as to show off a wide range of mobility products through its new live commerce platform..
In addition, it intends to install about 2,000 EV chargers at its stores across the country by 2023.
