Hospital Employs VR to Treat Panic Disorders

SEOUL, Nov. 15 (Korea Bizwire)Come January, an Incheon-area hospital will incorporate VR technology to help patients overcome panic disorders and stress-related mental obstacles.

The Gachon University Gil Medical Center announced on November 14 that it will be opening a “VR Treatment Center” where victims suffering from panic disorders will have the chance to be gradually exposed to their fears in a safe setting. The hospital will closely monitor the patients’ “VR dosage”, ensuring that the programs they are exposed to are tailored to each individual’s personal situation and severity of symptoms.

A hospital spokesperson said, “It is already known that treatment of patients suffering from mental illness using VR technology has positive results.”
