SEOUL, Nov. 15 (Korea Bizwire) – Come January, an Incheon-area hospital will incorporate VR technology to help patients overcome panic disorders and stress-related mental obstacles.
The Gachon University Gil Medical Center announced on November 14 that it will be opening a “VR Treatment Center” where victims suffering from panic disorders will have the chance to be gradually exposed to their fears in a safe setting. The hospital will closely monitor the patients’ “VR dosage”, ensuring that the programs they are exposed to are tailored to each individual’s personal situation and severity of symptoms.
The Gil Medical Center plans to expand the scope of its VR treatment to include those diagnosed with ADHD or mild cognitive impairment going forward.
A hospital spokesperson said, “It is already known that treatment of patients suffering from mental illness using VR technology has positive results.”
