SEOUL, May 21 (Korea Bizwire) — A hotel in Seoul is offering guestrooms to up-and-coming writers in need of a workspace.
Hotel Prince Seoul, a three-star hotel in Myeongdong, a popular tourist and shopping district, joined hands with the Arts Council Korea to start this initiative in 2014, offering guestrooms to a total of 73 writers so far.
This year, the hotel is offering guestrooms to eight writers.
In front of each room reserved for the writers is a banner that says, “This room is a writer’s workspace. Please keep quiet.” in Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese.
“The hotel is located at the heart of the city. It’s quiet, cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and very popular among writers,” an Arts Council Korea said.
The requirements for application are quite strict. The applicant must be a writer with less than 10 years of experience who plans to publish a book within 12 months. Priority goes to writers living outside of Seoul or the Greater Seoul Metropolitan Area.
