SEOUL, Nov. 25 (Korea Bizwire) – Less than two months after its release, Huawei Technologies is dropping the price of its budget X3 smartphone by nearly 40 percent, offering a 200,000-won-discount to local customers in a move indicative of the Chinese vendor’s struggling ‘smartphone push’ in Korea.
Media Log, a local distributor and affiliate of LG Uplus, announced on November 24 that it would temporarily sell the X3 at a price of 330,000 won until December 28. In addition, the retailer plans to provide an additional 282,000-won subsidy when a customer chooses a Umobi log 40 plan for two years.
The smartphone originally retailed for 528,000 won at the time of its Korean launch, but as the handset market stagnates due to the introduction of the mobile phone retail structure improvement law, sales have been lower than expected.

Of customers purchasing the handset, 30 will have a chance to take a trip to Shanghai, China. Another 60 purchasers will receive a Talkband, Huawei’s smartband.
“We decided to lower the price after reviewing causes of the slump,” a company official said. “We will comply with the new retail regulations, and meet customer demand for inexpensive handsets,” he added.
