HWACHEON, Aug. 2 (Korea Bizwire) – The 2019 Hwacheon Tomato Festival opened Thursday afternoon in Hwacheon County, Gangwon Province.
This year’s festival saw its curtain rise with “Find the Golden Ring,” the festival’s main event.
As part of the program, participants have to find gold rings hidden in discarded tomatoes, tomatoes that are not commercially viable due to cuts and bruises, that have been scattered around the festival area.
A total of 52.5 don (a Korean unit of measurement used for gold) in gold rings have been hidden for the festival, and will be available for visitors to find until the closing day of Aug. 4.
Furthermore, more than 62 tons of discarded tomatoes will be used in the festival.
