HWACHEON, Jan. 4 (Korea Bizwire) – The Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival is back this year with extended nighttime events in an all-out bid to attract a record number of visitors.
Just in time for Hwacheon’s famous trout fishing festival, which kicks off this weekend, the Hwacheon County Government has announced plans for a number of evening events including dance parties, K-pop concerts, and marching band performances.
Under the theme “Rainbow Party”, a total of seven night events will be held throughout the month of January. Dance parties, each with a different dress code, as well as a masquerade ball with a DJ are being planned by organizers to attract more guests.
In addition, performances from a military marching band from the 7th Infantry Division, renowned guitarist Yang Tae-hwan, busking bands and other famous local musicians are scheduled, giving all the more reason for visitors from across the country to come and enjoy the growing festival.
Following last year’s success, food trucks and beer tasting events are back again this year, as well as roulette events offering coupons for local restaurants.
The Hwacheon County Government will hold a car-free festival on some of the main roads in the area on Fridays and Saturdays between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., presenting a more relaxed and open atmosphere.

“We are putting our best efforts into the nighttime events at the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival, which could greatly contribute to the local economy,” said Choi Moon-soon, the mayor of Hwacheon County.
Work to move 180 tons of trout from across the country to a local fishing farm for the festival began last week, with the first haul of trout weighing 800 kilograms from Uljin in North Gyeongsang Province having arrived in Hwacheon.

Over one million visitors are expected to flock to the town to catch “sancheoneo”, a species of freshwater trout.
