GURYE, Sep. 4 (Korea Bizwire) — While the burger industry continues to roll out a plethora of plant-based burger options to replace traditional meat patties, the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, South Korea’s largest Buddhist order, has generated quite a stir by introducing its own vegan burger.
Hwaeomsa, located in Mount Jiri and serving as the head temple of the 19th district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, proudly unveiled their latest creation: a vegan burger. The primary ingredient for the burger “bun” is rice, and the patties are crafted from soy protein, while both the cheese and sauce are exclusively composed of plant-based ingredients.
In their ongoing efforts to connect with the public, Hwaeomsa has organized various events, ranging from a plum blossom photo contest to a yoga festival commemorating World Yoga Day and even a unique mosquito net movie concert.
This new vegetarian food offering follows the introduction of environmentally friendly Hwaeomsa merchandise, creatively repurposed from discarded bean bags into bags that enable people to engage more closely with Buddhism. Looking ahead, the company has plans to expand into the New York and Southeast Asian markets in the first half of the coming year.
