SEOUL, Oct. 20 (Korea Bizwire) — Sales of Hyundai Motor Co. and affiliate Kia Corp. cars are up in Germany and Britain, the two largest economies in Europe with strong automobile industries.
The German Association of the Automotive Industry reported an 8.7 percent increase in Hyundai and Kia car sales from last year with 129,257 cars sold between January and September of this year.
In particular, Hyundai sold 18,935 electric vehicles (EVs) over the same period, which was 124.3 percent more than last year (8,443 EVs). Kia also sold 6,587 units of fully electric Soul EV and Niro EV over the same period, which was 53.5 percent more than last year.
The two companies also showed meaningful performance in Britain, Europe’s second-largest car market.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders reported a 33.7 percent increase in Hyundai and Kia car sales from last year with 127,027 units sold in the first three quarters this year.
As of last month, Hyundai sold 1,195 units of IONIQ 5 all-electric model since the EV was released in July, selling a total of 8,725 EVs throughout the first three quarters this year, rising by 71.7 percent from the previous year.
