SEOUL, Oct. 30 (Korea Bizwire) – Hyundai Motor Co. said Thursday it broke ground on a new hydrogen fuel cell production facility in the southeastern city of Ulsan, marking a step forward in solidifying the automaker’s leadership in the future mobility sector.
The company held a groundbreaking ceremony at its main car manufacturing complex in Ulsan, about 305 kilometers southeast of Seoul, attended by key company executives and government officials, including Energy Minister Kim Sung-whan, according to Hyundai Motor.
Ivana Jemelkova, chief executive officer (CEO) of the World Hydrogen Council, a global CEO-level consultative body for the hydrogen sector, was also present.
Hyundai Motor invested 930 billion won (US$652.1 million) in the plant, which is set for completion in 2027 with a planned capacity of 30,000 fuel cell vehicles annually.
The new facility is being built on the site of a former internal combustion engine transmission plant, symbolizing Hyundai Motor’s shift toward future mobility.
