SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea’s leading carmaker Hyundai Motor Co. has unveiled its first-ever large-sized all-electric Ioniq 9 sport utility vehicle (SUV) in a world premiere event held in the United States, the company said Thursday.
The event was held at Goldstein House in Los Angeles on Wednesday (U.S. time) to showcase the third model in Hyundai’s Ioniq electric-vehicle lineup, according to the Korean company. The company has released the Ioniq 5 and 6 since 2022.
“The Ioniq 9 embodies Hyundai Motor’s unwavering commitment and confidence in electrification,” said Chang Jae-hoon, Hyundai Motor president and CEO. “Based on Hyundai Motor Group’s acclaimed Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the Ioniq 9 offers outstanding interior space, providing customers with unique value while solidifying our leadership in the global EV market.”
The carmaker will introduce the brand new three-row electric SUV to the public at the LA Auto Show set to kick off Friday.
Sales of the Ioniq 9 will begin in the domestic and U.S. markets in the first half next year, with subsequent rollout planned for Europe and other regions.
The Ioniq 9 boasts a spacious and lounge-like interior, which can accommodate up to seven occupants, and a “sleek aerosthetic” exterior design that reflects the company’s commitment to blending aerodynamic innovation and sophisticated, futuristic styling, according to the company.
The car also features its innovative E-GMP architecture to enhance the power electric system, which works as an engine and power inverter for hill climbing and efficient driving.
It can rear-wheel drive up to 620 kilometers with a single charge of its 110.3 kilowatt-hour battery based on the worldwide harmonized light vehicles test procedure, and is powered by a 160 kW rear motor, the company explained. The battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes using a 350 kW charger.
The company also said it has applied practical, future-oriented technologies to the Ioniq 9 to address common EV customer concerns, including a refined EV route planner, improved battery consistency, an enhanced torque control display and a comprehensive energy report feature.
