SEOUL, Feb. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. (Hyundai E&C) said Wednesday it showcased its expertise in large-scale nuclear power plant construction at a seminar in the United States, as it seeks to win engineering contracts tied to renewed interest in nuclear energy.

On Tuesday (U.S. time), the company held a large-scale nuclear technology seminar in Texas aimed at improving understanding of nuclear power projects and strengthening its position in the U.S. market, Hyundai E&C said in a press release.

The event drew officials from about 100 U.S. nuclear power and construction companies. Presentations covered nuclear construction standards, plant structures and workforce development, the company said.

“Years of suspended nuclear construction have led to a contraction of the U.S. nuclear workforce and supply chain, posing challenges for large-scale project execution,” Hyundai E&C said. “Through the seminar, we aim to build partnerships with capable companies and strengthen our competitiveness in the U.S. market.”

Last year, Hyundai E&C signed a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract with Fermi America for the construction of four large-scale nuclear units under Project Matador in Texas.

The company said it is currently working on site layout planning, cooling system assessments and other engineering evaluations, with the goal of securing an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract in the first half of this year.

Hyundai E&C and Fermi America aim to establish a long-term cooperation framework for nuclear power plant construction in Texas and elsewhere in the U.S., the release said.

Mesut Uzman, chief nuclear construction officer at Fermi America, said, “AI-driven electricity demand is accelerating faster than many anticipate. The next decade will be defined by who can build power infrastructure quickly enough to support AI and industrial growth.”

Hyundai E&C brings the industrial scale and execution discipline needed to deliver major energy projects such as Project Matador, he said.
