SEOUL, Sept. 23 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Glovis Co., the logistics unit of Hyundai Motor Group, said Thursday it will establish a logistics center furnished with a variety of advanced facilities at the Incheon International Airport’s second logistics complex.

The company and the Incheon International Airport Corp. signed an agreement to build and operate a smart logistics center.

The logistics center will play a headquarters role covering global airborne logistics via a connection with other bases. With a floor space of 46,111 square meters and five above-ground floors, the logistics center will be completed in 2025.

To deal with global e-commerce cargo, Hyundai Glovis plans to operate a special cargo handling terminal that will have its own classification system and customs clearance system.

The company also plans to actively use smart and automation logistics facilities, including logistics robots developed by U.S. robotics startup Boston Dynamics, which was recently acquired by Hyundai Motor Group.

The new facility is expected to act as a multimodal transport warehouse covering both seaborne and airborne cargo.

After taking ex-China cargo through seaborne transportation, the cargo will be transported by air to its final destination through Incheon International Airport.

Hyundai Glovis expects the logistics center to process about 25,000 tons of air cargo per year in the first five years of its existence.
