SEOUL, Jul. 4 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Co. has landed a partnership with a Sydney-based car sharing start-up to develop a smartphone application that allows for a person-to-person ride sharing service, the company said Wednesday.
Under the partnership with Car Next Door, Hyundai Motor aims to launch an app-based “new mobility service” in Australia by 2020. The service provides a platform where Hyundai vehicle owners can make money by allowing their neighbors who do not own a car to rent their vehicles, the company said in a statement.
Hyundai plans to apply the Hyundai Auto Link app-based P2P car rental service initially to the i30 hatchback and the Kona subcompact sport-utility vehicle and then to the Santa Fe SUV and Ioniq environmentally-friendly models, it said.
Car Next Door is an Australian company that promotes peer-to-peer car rental, a system by which individuals can rent privately owned vehicles on an hourly or daily basis to other registered users of the service.
