SEOUL, March 14 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Co. was named the most popular electric vehicle (EV) brand for three consecutive years in a survey of domestic consumers, a survey showed Monday.
According to the survey of 2,172 adult consumers by the EV Trend Korea, South Korea’s leading electric car expo, 43 percent of the respondents picked Hyundai as their favorite brand, up 5 percentage points from a year ago
Following Hyundai were Kia Corp. at 18 percent, Tesla Inc. at 14 percent, BMW at 8 percent and Genesis at 4 percent.
EV Trend Korea Secretariat noted that the popularity of Tesla in the domestic market is gradually declining after reaching 31 percent in 2021.
Maximum range and price were viewed as key considerations when purchasing EVs.
Among the respondents who intended to purchase EVs, 88 percent said they would prefer to spend under 57 million won (US$43,750).
In response to a question asking for opinions about EV policy, 49 percent expressed hope for the expansion of charging station infrastructure, followed by purchase subsidies and tax support (35 percent), and benefits for EV drivers (15 percent).
