Hyundai, Kia Break 200,000 Mark in Cumulative EV Sales in Europe

SEOUL, Dec. 12 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate Kia Corp. have broken the 200,000 mark in cumulative electric vehicle (EV) sales in the European Union, industry data showed Sunday.

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), Kia had sold 200,984 EVs in the European market as of late October 2022. By model, the Niro EV ranked first with 121,852 units, followed by the Soul EV and the EV6.

Kia’s EV6 sedan, its first dedicated all-electric model built on Hyundai Motor Group’s EV platform, passed the 30,000 mark in cumulative sales just one year after being released in September last year.

The EV6 accounted for 39 percent of Kia’s EV sales in Europe.

In the European market, the EV6 was named the 2022 European Car of the Year (ECOTY) in February for the first time among Korean car brands, indicating that its performance and product value are highly recognized.

Meanwhile, Hyundai saw its cumulative European EV sales reach 237,631 units in October. The Kona EV ranked first with 145,114 units sold, followed by the IONIQ Electric and IONIQ 5.

According to Hyundai Motor Europe, the pre-booking volume of 2,500 units for the upcoming IONIQ 6 electric sedan was fully exhausted in five European countries, including Germany, Britain, France, Norway and the Netherlands.
