SEOUL, July 31 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Motor Co. and its smaller affiliate Kia Corp. said they will establish a blockchain-based subcontractor carbon emissions history management automation system (SCEMS) and distribute it for free to their subcontractors.

SCEMS is an integrated system that covers the entire process, from raw material procurement to component and vehicle manufacturing and transportation.

The system utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) modeling to reflect the unique characteristics of hundreds of subcontractors’ operational sites, carmakers noted.

Once each subcontractor inputs data complying with their respective situation, the AI automatically provides information on carbon emissions and future forecast values.

Even for subcontractors without specialized personnel, who had to rely on external experts for calculating their carbon footprint, the new system will enable them to set their targets and manage carbon reduction activities on their own.
