SEOUL, Sept. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Co. is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its Sonata sedan with a special exhibition in Seoul that retraces the model’s evolution from the company’s early years to its present status as a flagship vehicle.
The exhibition, titled “By Your Side – Stella & Sonata,” opened Thursday at Culture Space Picnic in Seoul and will run through January 4. It highlights the Sonata’s roots in the Stella, Hyundai’s second domestically developed passenger car, first launched in 1983. The Sonata debuted in 1985 as the Stella’s premium trim before becoming a standalone model.
As part of the showcase, Hyundai has restored the Stella 88, a special edition introduced in conjunction with the 1988 Seoul Olympics, which will be displayed alongside original blueprints, design sketches and vintage commercials.
The automaker is also publishing Retrace Magazine: Stella & Sonata and plans to host a book talk at Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul on October 18.
“The restoration of the Stella 88 is more than a recreation of the past,” a Hyundai official said. “It is a reflection on the dedication of employees who built Hyundai’s independent technology and a chance to appreciate the enduring relationship between the company and its customers.”
