SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Korea Bizwire) – Hyundai Mobis Co., South Korea’s leading auto parts maker, has developed new technology that enables users to open menus simply by moving their hand near an automobile’s displays and select menu items with a hand gesture.
The company announced that it had developed a proximity detection pop-up display dubbed Quick Menu Selection.
This technology, called Menu Pre Information, applies a proximity sensor to in-vehicle displays to minimize touch screen manipulations, making it easier for users to select the menus they want.
The new technology makes use of infrared ray (IR) sensors for in-vehicle position sensing for the first time in the world.
Hyundai Mobis expects this technology to contribute to enhancing the convenience and safety of driving by minimizing drivers’ motions, while preventing them from being distracted.
If users move their hand near the automotive displays applied with the Quick Menu Selection technology, it automatically opens frequently-used pop-up menus. They also can find menus they want simply with a hand gesture.
“By leveraging extended menus and gesture functions, the Quick Menu Selection will contribute to minimizing cumbersome screen manipulations,” the company said.
