SEOUL, Apr. 4 (Korea Bizwire) – Hyundai Mobis, a leading automotive parts supplier, announced on April 4 the launch of a button-integrated smart key in the form of a slim card, designed for enhanced portability and convenience.

While card-style smart keys have previously been used in certain export models of the Genesis brand, this marks the first time such a product is being introduced for domestic consumers in South Korea.

Despite its thin card-like design, the new smart key retains all the functionalities of traditional smart keys. Embedded with buttons, users can perform various operations, including locking and unlocking doors, remote engine start, remote parking assistance, trunk opening, and activating the panic alarm.

In contrast, conventional NFC card keys require direct contact with the vehicle’s door to operate, limiting their functionality to only locking/unlocking doors and starting the engine.

Hyundai Mobis cited the increasing number of personal items, such as smartphones and wireless earbuds, that consumers carry daily, making portability a crucial factor in automotive key design.

The button-integrated card smart key will debut on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N model, a high-performance variant developed by Hyundai’s N brand. It will be available for purchase through the N Performance Shop, an online platform dedicated to N-brand products.

Customers can personalize the design on the back of the card key by choosing from various textures and patterns to suit their preferences. The Ioniq 5 N-specific card smart key features the iconic N brand logo and distinctive color scheme.

“We plan to expand the application of the button-integrated card smart key to other domestic models in the future,” said Son Chan-mo, head of Hyundai Mobis’ Service Parts Business Unit. “We will continue to introduce diverse after-sales service businesses to enhance user convenience and satisfaction.”
