LAS VEGAS/SEOUL, Jan. 9 (Korea Bizwire) — At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Hyundai Mobis revealed its cutting-edge “holographic windshield transparent display” technology, marking its first public demonstration in a real vehicle.
This innovative technology allows images and video content to be projected onto a vehicle’s windshield using a specialized film, eliminating the need for traditional physical screens.
A Game-Changing Transparent Display
Hyundai Mobis showcased the technology on Kia’s EV9 electric vehicle during a live demonstration. The system replaces conventional dashboard displays with vivid projections on the lower portion of the windshield, offering driving information, navigation, and multimedia content.
The display remains invisible from the outside, ensuring privacy while providing high brightness and color accuracy, even under strong sunlight.
Unlike conventional head-up displays (HUDs), the holographic system has no restrictions on where content appears on the windshield, offering flexibility based on film placement.
The technology utilizes HOE (holographic optical element) film, which efficiently directs images to the user’s eyes through light diffraction. It also supports privacy features, ensuring passenger screens remain unseen by the driver.
Strategic Partnership with Zeiss
Hyundai Mobis is developing the technology in collaboration with German optics leader Zeiss. The two companies aim to complete pre-production development by mid-2026, with plans to launch the product by 2027.
The system also enables edge-screen-style displays on windshield sides and supports advanced features such as driver and passenger monitoring and augmented reality (AR) integration.
Hyundai Mobis CEO Lee Kyu-seok and Zeiss CEO Karl Lamprecht highlighted their partnership during a joint session at the Hyundai Mobis booth, emphasizing their commitment to expanding collaboration on cutting-edge automotive technologies.
Aggressive Expansion at CES 2025
Hyundai Mobis was the sole Hyundai Motor Group affiliate to attend CES this year, hosting 30+ meetings with global clients and showcasing high-value products.
Additionally, the company invited 40 students from prestigious U.S. engineering schools, such as MIT and Stanford, to experience its innovations firsthand as part of its global talent acquisition efforts.
CEO Lee stated, “We will actively target global markets by leveraging our market-leading technologies and high-value products. Hyundai Mobis remains committed to introducing transformative innovations in the automotive space.”
