SEOUL, Aug. 19 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Co. and Konkuk University announced Thursday the opening of Asia’s first canine blood donation center near the university’s veterinary medical teaching hospital.
The clinic was set up to resolve the issue of so-called blood supply dogs that are born and raised solely for the purpose of supplying blood and to collect a wide variety of blood for a quick response to rising needs nationwide.
Any pet owner wishing to donate blood can register at the blood donation center webpage.
Each dog donor will receive a free medical checkup and a one-time free blood supply.
The carmaker plans to donate 1 billion won (US$753,300) over the next five years for the center’s operation. It will also donate a specially designed ambulance for animal transport.
