SEOUL, Jan.19 (Korea Bizwire)For the first time in Korea, the Gwangju Creative Economy Innovation Center (GCEIC) established by Hyundai Motor Group built a fusion station, a key infrastructure element for the realization of a ‘hydrogen economy’.

According to Hyundai Motor Group, the first generation fusion station that was completed using the hydrogen charging station at the Jingok Industry Center has fuel cell equipment capable of generating electricity, and can charge both electric cars and hydrogen cars at the same time.

The GCEIC started to build the station in July 2015, and completed it within five months.

Hyundai Motor Group and GCEIC are pushing to develop hydrogen energy technology, which is expected to be the eco-friendly energy source of the future.

As the first generation fusion station is completed, various studies related to the development of fuel cells can now be accelerated.

The center is planning to construct a second station in the latter half of this year. The second facility will be a CNG and LPG charging center modified to feature a hydrogen-generating reformer.
