SEOUL, Jan. 14 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Motor Co. said Wednesday it will expand the operation of the ‘visiting charging service’ for its electric vehicle (EV) customers.

This service is available when EV batteries are discharged during driving-on status or when customers have difficulty going to charging stations. Hyundai staff visit the location at the time chosen by customers to recharge their batteries for free.

In each case of use, the EV batteries can be charged up to 7 kilowatt hours (kWh), which is enough to drive a distance of about 44 kilometers.

The company started the trial operation of the visiting charging service in Jeju Island in 2016 and expanded the coverage of the service throughout the country in 2017.

The service has been offered on a limited basis of four times a year for up to five years. Hyundai, however, decided to increase the annual service frequency to 10 times.

Particularly for Jeju Island where EV rentals are popular, the carmaker decided to expand the maximum amount of charging to 20 kWh when charging stations are out of service.
