SEOUL, July 28 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Motor Group’s innovative technology is gaining attention after it was found to have contributed to the South Korean national archery team’s outstanding performance at the Tokyo Olympics, with the team having already won three gold medals.

Hyundai’s technological support program started with Jeong Eui-seon, chairman of the Korea Archery Association, based on the belief that Hyundai’s future car R&D technology can better train archers.

Hyundai discussed various plans for technological support with the Korea Archery Association following the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and decided to offer support in five major areas.

Hyundai introduced a new shooting machine with enhanced precision and accuracy in order to better evaluate high-quality arrows.

When archers shoot arrows with the shooting machine at a 70-meter range, the machine identifies arrows with defects by calculating their strength, direction, and speed.

Hyundai Motor Group also distributed vision-based heart rate monitors to the archers, which can detect the slightest change in the color of each archer’s face to locate pulse waves and monitor the heartbeat.

The monitors use cutting-edge vision computing technology to replace other types of monitors that require physical contact.

Coaches have used the archer’s heartbeat and scoring data to identify sources of psychological anxiety among archers.

Hyundai’s technology was also applied to automatic scoring devices, deep-learning vision artificial intelligence (AI) coaches, and bow grips catered to the needs of each archer.
