SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Group said on Tuesday that it placed more vehicles at the top of the latest U.S. crash safety ratings than any other global automaker this year, underscoring the company’s growing emphasis on safety as a core competitive strength.
According to results released by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Genesis G80 and Kia Sorento earned the highest designation, Top Safety Pick Plus, while the Hyundai Palisade received the Top Safety Pick rating. In total, Hyundai Motor Group secured Top Safety Pick Plus or Top Safety Pick honors for 21 models sold in the United States in 2025 — the most among global automotive groups and the second consecutive year it has led the rankings.
The IIHS evaluates vehicles sold in the U.S. market each year on crashworthiness and crash-prevention performance, awarding Top Safety Pick Plus to models that achieve the highest scores across all categories, and Top Safety Pick to those with strong overall results.
This year’s Top Safety Pick Plus list included eight Hyundai models — among them the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, Ioniq 9, Kona, Tucson, Santa Fe, Elantra and Sonata — as well as five Kia models, including the EV9, Sportage, Sorento, Telluride and K4. Genesis models earning the top designation included the GV60, GV70, electrified GV70, GV80 and G80. The Hyundai Palisade, Santa Cruz and Genesis G90 received Top Safety Pick honors.
Electric vehicles built on the group’s E-GMP dedicated EV platform accounted for a large share of the top-rated models. In particular, the Ioniq 9 and EV9 earned the highest possible “Good” rating in every evaluation category, including frontal and side crash tests and collision prevention systems.
Hyundai Motor Group attributed the results to the E-GMP platform’s multi-load-path body structure, which is designed to distribute crash energy more effectively.
“These results demonstrate for the second straight year that our commitment to customer safety has been validated by the world’s most authoritative safety assessments,” a company official said.
