SEOUL, July 21 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Motor Group on Thursday hosted the Nano Tech Day 2023 event in in Myeongdong, central Seoul, and unveiled a variety of new nanotechnologies that will bolster its future mobility competitiveness.

Among these technologies is the world’s first self-healing polymer coating, developed using nanomaterials.

It can return a damaged area back to its normal state within two hours at room temperature, without the need for a separate heat source or recovery facilitator.

Components coated with this self-healing material possess the property of returning to their original state when scratched, thanks to the chemical reaction of the polymer.

Another innovative offering is the oil capsule polymer coating, designed to significantly reduce component corrosion.

This coating is based on a principle where nano-capsules within the polymer burst upon friction, releasing the lubricant inside and forming a protective film.

Unlike traditional lubricants, the nano-capsules maintain lubrication for an extended period, lasting until the component’s lifespan ends. Additionally, this solution offers lower costs and can be applied to various components.

The carmaker also introduced a transparent solar cell that utilizes perovskite, boasting more than 30 percent higher photoelectric efficiency compared to silicon solar cells.

This advancement aims to decrease vehicles’ reliance on batteries and improve overall energy efficiency.

Unlike the previous opaque silicon solar cells limited to the roof area, this technology can be applied to all glass surfaces of the vehicle, effectively increasing power output.

Hyundai also unveiled an eco-friendly product, a new transparent radiative cooling film that can be attached to the vehicle’s glass. This film reduces the internal temperature on hot days without any additional energy consumption.
